Juvenile-adult differences in criminal justice: evidence from the United Nations crime survey

Article Abstract:

An analysis of 1975, 1980 and 1986 data from United Nations Crime Surveys suggests juvenile-adult differences in criminal justice in various countries. Countries vary greatly in the percentages of all juveniles entering the justice system and in the percentage of all people entering the justice system that are juvenile. Over time, data varied dramatically in some individual countries, suggesting that policy needs change just as dramatically. At the conviction stage, most countries had higher proportions of male than female juveniles still in the justice system.
