Laws protect reservists' civilian jobs; the Kosovo conflict has raised significant issues for employers about military leaves of absence and re-employment rights

Article Abstract:

The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) requires the employer to allow the employee a leave of absence for uniformed service and bars any negative employment action against the individual as a consequence. USERRA does not require any salary for the employee during this leave, but employees are free to use paid leave time. Employers may not, however, require the employee to use such leave time during the period of uniformed service.
