RICO's "troubled...transition": organized crime, strategic institutional factors, and implementation delay, 1971-1981

Article Abstract:

This article evaluates the effectiveness of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) statute of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970. The author, maintaining RICO was instituted in an effort to prevent mob infiltration into legitimate enterprises, argues that implementation of the law stagnated until 1981 due to the political turmoil of the Nixon, Ford, and Carter administrations, the turnover in the Office of Attorney General, and FBI leadership problems.

The gender gap in fear of crime, 1973-1994: a methodological approach
