Legal and racial elements of public willingness to transfer juvenile offenders to adult court

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the issue of public support for the harsher treatment of criminals by evaluating variables correlating with individuals' willingness to treat juvenile offenders as adults subject to criminal penalties. The association between the legal elements and extralegal elements of a case was analyzed against citizens' willingness to transfer youthful offenders from juvenile to adult criminal court. Moreover, interaction terms associated with assault and type of weapon were examined.

A study was conducted to analyze arrest patterns of police officers in domestic violence events for a stratified random sample of incidents in two police districts in Boston, MA, in 1993. The chi-square automation interaction detector was utilized to carry out the initial analytic strategy. Interaction effects were entered into logistic regression frameworks to produce odd rations in the predictions of arrests.
