Lobbying lawyers; Clinton, Perot spur debate on disclosure requirements

Article Abstract:

Campaign discussions between Bill Clinton and Ross Perot have inspired legislative debate about disclosure requirements for lawyer-lobbyists. Exemptions in the current lobbying laws, for example the Foreign Agents Registration Act, give lawyers reasons not to register as lobbyists. Lawyers are not the only ones to take advantage of multiple exemptions in the lobbying laws, It has been estimated that of the 80,000 lobbyists in Washington, only about 6,000 are registered. Senate and House bills aims to tighten registration requirements.
