Microsoft hopes firms will make Word association; in 'Word 95,' the software giant sees a window of opportunity to further invade the legal market

Article Abstract:

Microsoft hopes the power and features of its new Windows 95 and the associated word-processing package, Word for Windows 95, will lure the legal community away from WordPerfect. The new package is indeed superior, and most users will find it worth the cost and effort to upgrade. WordPerfect's Windows 95-compatible version will not be available for several months after Microsoft's rolls out in Sept 1995, and the latter includes many valuable features, including easier use by WordPerfect aficionados.

Products compete to find law firms' suite spot; with word processors as their flagships, elaborate software suites vie for the legal market

Article Abstract:

Word processing software is increasingly sold as flagship programs in software 'suites' rather than as products standing alone. Such suites have many capabilities and are a cost-effective way for most lawyers to do their computing. Their standardized formats facilitate the transfer of data among component programs. Three are considered to be industry leaders: Corel WordPerfect, Lotus SmartSuite 96 for Windows 95 and Microsoft Office 95. Each is available in a 32-bit, Windows 95 version.
