Mispriced planet

Article Abstract:

Robert Costanza and his coauthors published an erroneous estimation of the value of the world ecosystem in the May 15, 1997 issue of the publication 'Nature.' Costanza estimated the total value of the planet's seventeen ecosystems to be about $33 trillion or 1.8 times more than world GNP, which is valued at $18 trillion. Their estimates are flawed in three areas which include a mistake in the interpretation of willingness to pay, in its application, and an overestimation of economic values.

Mobile source pollution in Mexico City and market-based alternatives

Article Abstract:

Latin America's major cities are experiencing higher air pollution levels brought about by urban development and rapid industrialization. In Mexico City, Mexico, some 20 million people suffer from poor health and productivity because of urban pollution. The problem is expected to worsen as the city becomes more industrialized and more populous. The government must take steps as early as now if it wants to avoid worsening the situation.
