Monetary costs and benefits of crime prevention programs

Article Abstract:

The benefits of most community crime prevention programs generally exceed costs, but the varied methods used in different services make determining which kind of program is most economically efficient impossible. Economic analysis of such programs should include employment, education, and health benefits as well as crime reduction.

Punishment and crime across space and time

Article Abstract:

A discussion on an updated knowledge of cross-national patterns of crime and punishment is presented. Focus is laid on property crime, burglary, violent crime and robbery. Three measures of punishment are discussed which indicate that the crime rates may be differentially related to different indices of risk and certainty.

Predictors, causes, and correlates of male youth violence

Article Abstract:

Risk factors for youth violence and possible prevention research are presented. The article attributes the increase in youth violence to biological factors, juveniles' difficulty dealing with family issues, and low socioeconomic status in crime-ridden urban areas.
