Narrowing parent corporation liability under CERCLA for the twenty-first century

Article Abstract:

The author discusses issues involved in the potential attachment of liability to parent corporations for the acts of their subsidiaries relating to clean ups of hazardous waste sites under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA). The author focuses upon the US Supreme Court 1998 case United States v. Bestfoods.

Y2K: a pothole on the information super highway to electronic banking

Article Abstract:

The impact of the Year 2000 computer problem on the growth of electronic banking transactions is discussed. Issues include the FDIC's aggressive Y2K conversion program, the Y2K readiness of banks, and customer concerns about Y2K as to electronic banking.

A plea to address the lack of access to the Internet among the poor and minorities which exists worldwide is given. Statistical evidence is given to support this plea, and the term digital divide is used.
