Not-for-profit work has its own risks; practitioners who also serve on nonprofit boards should be aware of the consequences

Article Abstract:

Concerns outside counsel who also serve on nonprofit boards should have that both the nonlegal services and the pro bono legal services may be subject to the local rules of professional conduct are discussed. Counsel should be sure of requirements in the local jurisdiction's statutes for minimizing exposure of nonprofit directors to liability for negligent acts or omissions.
