Oil manufacturers clash over mandated Calif. gas; six companies say Unocal Corp.'s patent for clean gas is invalid because all seven helped to develop the formula
Article Abstract:
Six major oil companies have filed an unusual lawsuit against Unocal for claiming a patent for a product they contend all seven developed together and is now in the public domain. Atlantic Richfield, Chevron USA, Exxon, Mobil Oil, Shell Oil Products, and Texaco Refining and Marketing filed their suit on Apr 13, 1995, over Unocal's reformulated gasoline (RFG), which meets the standards California requires as of Mar 1996. Unocal reportedly wants a license agreement paying it one cent per gallon sold, or $80 million annually in the California market.

Ex-AG is sued for costs; but Thornburgh says he's not liable
Article Abstract:
Political consultant Karl Rove is suing former US Attorney General Richard Thornburgh for $170,000 in direct mail advertising costs from his unsuccessful campaign for the US Senate in 1991. Thornburgh claims to be baffled by the suit, stating it should be a matter between Rove and his campaign committee. The issue of personal liability for campaign debts has had mixed results in the courts.
