Organisation theory and the ethics of participation

Article Abstract:

Different organization paradigms are described and analyzed with respect to their normative prescriptions for employee participation in decision-making. Participation's positive results might be enhanced apparently by the acknowledgement of the social nature of humankind and the awareness of the existence of differentiated goals. It is suggested that participation be extended to include the definition of a shared value horizon.

Governance in the participative organisation: freedom, creativity and ethics

Article Abstract:

Governance in flexible, responsive and participative organizations can be understood by drawing analogies between organization theory and theories of non-linear dynamics. 'Chaotic' participative organizations are shown to be driven by freedom and creativity. The ethics of the exercise of these organizations within organizational communities of practice, communities of commitment and communities of discernment is explored.
