Proposed changes to New South Wales and Tasmanian contaminated site regimes

Article Abstract:

The governments of New South Wales and Tasmania have both released reports that detail intended revisions to their respective contaminated sites laws. The "Position Paper for Contaminated Sites Management System in Tasmania" was issued on Oct. 18, 1996, and sets out the hierarchy of responsibility for contamination and the system for classifying sites based on the risks they pose. Issued on July 5, 1996, "Managing Contaminated Land in NSW: Proposals for a New Legislative and Administrative Framework" identifies planned reforms to remediation and liability provisions.
