Public participation in environmental decisionmaking at the new millennium: structuring new spheres of public influence

Article Abstract:

Public participation in environmental policy decision-making faces a variety of obstacles which can be overcome by the means of participation strategies developed by government agencies in coordination with the public. Such strategies could be conducted within a coordinating framework made up of three interconnected spheres of public influence: involvement in political parties and environmental groups, public influence on environmental decisions at the regional level, and public influence in local environmental decisions.

The American environmental movement: surviving through diversity

Article Abstract:

The American environmental movement's transformation into a social movement is discussed. The increasing diversity of the movement's membership and its adoption of an ideology more inclusive of the urban environment are included. How the legal system can be strategically used by the grassroots environmental groups is also included.
