Search 'widgets' streamline Internet research; new products help coordinate several search engines and yield more efficient results

Article Abstract:

New Internet search widgets facilitate searching multiple Internet/Intranet search engines, and one common feature of these new search tools is using a separate window or application for a persistent search interface. Two kinds of applications are on the market, a separate Windows application that can interact with a Web browser and a variety implementing the solution entirely within the Web browser with a separate window. Quarterdeck's Web Compass, Web Ferret, SSSpider, and Alexa are examples of the Windows Applications category, while Web Turbo is a Navigator/Explorer plug-in similar to the Windows applications.

New techniques allow instant data base creation; a practice-specific application can be developed in hours with 'rapid data base publication.'(Legal Tech)

Article Abstract:

Legal practice is increasingly specialized, and rapid data base publication (RDP) provides for law firms a way around the cost of targeted applications whose return will not be felt equally. RDP uses Internet technology to avoid time and deployment problems while facilitating the implementation of practice-specific data base technology. The process also uses 'clones' of system components which can easily be reused and customized. Further detail on RDP is given.

Techie client service

Article Abstract:

Bankruptcy attorney Bonnie Kay Donahue, of North Carolina's Womble Carlyle Sandridge and Rice PLC, devised software package ClientPlus to handle her smaller, higher-volume consumer bankruptcies. Donahue's experience as a trustee handling Chapter 13 consumer debt reorganizations gave her the idea for the new software. She felt that creditors' lack of standardization slowed their work and increased costs.
