Seeking substances: Indiana schools push for expansion of drug test ruling

Article Abstract:

The 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals expanded the interpretation of a reasonable search under the 4th Amendment when deciding two Indiana high schools' drug testing policy cases. The US Supreme Court allowed schools to test student athletes for drugs in Veronica School District 47J v. Acton, stating sports were distinguishable from other school activities. The Indiana schools' drug testing involved student participation in extracurricular activities other than athletics and students who were suspended from school.

Cutting through school daze; ABA guide treats prospective law students as consumers, skips rankings

Article Abstract:

The ABA Approved Law Schools is a guidebook to the 180 law schools accredited by the association and is advertised as the most detailed publication of its kind. It is commercially available and gives basic consumer information, very much like that available to people evaluating other major purchases. It is the first law school guide giving bar passage rates for ABA-accredited schools. Some state bar examiners and schools were reluctant to release such informationm, making it previously hard to obtain.

Rank speculation; some big-name law schools fare poorly in new, controversial rankings by a former Michigan justice

Article Abstract:

A ranking of law schools by former Michigan justice and Thomas Cooley Law School pres Thomas E. Brennan was in some respects surprisingly different from the well-publicized annual ranking of U.S. News & World Report. The University of Chicago Law School is usually part of U.S. News's top 10 and was not included in Brennan's rankings. The Southern University Law Center was placed in 10th place by Brennan and is not included by U.S. News.
