Social change, crime, and culture: the defense provocation

Article Abstract:

This article examines defense of provocation, or honor killings, in which a person feels provoked to kill someone due to an insult toward him, his family, or his culture. The author argues that though many jurists do not feel this is justifiable they will often give a lighter sentence if they feel his situation merits sympathy, such as belonging to an unassimilated minority group.
