"Sullivan-type" principles for U.S. multinationals in emerging economies

Article Abstract:

US multinational corporations who do business in Russia should join together to aid the Russian economy and international free trade by adopting a Sullivan Principles-type code for guiding business operations there. The Russian economy is famous within and without Russia for its corruption and lack of order. Ethical considerations supporting capitalism but not requiring extraordinary measures would serve all involved by helping to develop a viable Russian economy.

Business ethics in a transforming economy: applying the Integrative Social Contracts Theory to Russia

Article Abstract:

The economic and ethical development of the Russian market economy can be examined and aided by reference to the Integrative Social Contracts Theory. That theory provides a framework for examining practices in light of fundamental ethical principles such as dignity and citizenship and principles particular to the Russian culture. Such a framework results in realistic evaluations and expectations by those transacting business in the emerging Russian economy.

Introduction

Article Abstract:

Economic development in countries whose economies are emerging concerns business persons, politicians, and scholars in practical and theoretical ways. The disciplines of law and ethics can aid in providing frameworks for discussions and decisions about entering, maintaining, and encouraging developing economies. Important issues such as localism versus internationalism can be addressed before decisions are made.
