Surprise! The employment news isn't as bad as had been feared

Article Abstract:

The National Association of Law Placement's 1991 Employment Report and Salary Survey revealed that the employment opportunities for law school graduates are decreasing only slightly and salaries are staying within previous ranges. The survey reached 86% of the 38,000 1991 graduates and show some relieving and some depressing trends. Many law firms are returning to the discriminatory hiring practices of the past when women and minorities were targeted for low paying public service jobs and white men for large law firms.

Autumn bodes ill for students: employment outlook worsens

Article Abstract:

Law students graduating in 1993 face a continuation of the scant employment possibilities in their field. In former years, law students who performed well in their summer associate jobs following their second year of law school usually received permanent job offers from those firms, but this is no longer the case. Law firms are evaluating candidates much more thoroughly than in past years and waiting longer to make permanent job offers.

New placement survey confirms just how bleak job market is

Article Abstract:

A Jan 1992 National Assn for Law Placement survey depicts a poor job market for law school graduates. The survey compared the job market in 1989-1990 and 1990-1991, and reports that law firms are doing less on-campus recruiting as well as offering fewer summer positions. The recession has brought about further decline in employment possibilities for lawyers.
