The Nile River: potential for conflict and cooperation in the face of water degradation

The author outlines the degraded environmental status of the Nile River and Basin. Efforts to bring about a regional agreement governing the river's use are discussed, along with possible international initiatives aimed at facilitating greater economic and environmental cooperation in the region.

The authors evaluate data from a study of conjunctive water management in Arizona, Colorado, and California and discuss how physical and institutional factors across the three states influence transactional costs and other factors related to conjunctive management.
