The Reality of Terrorism in the U.S

Article Abstract:

During the last two years, approximately one dozen federal buildings and installations in the United States have been bombed. The most recent bombing took place in November 1983, in the Senate Chamber of the United States Capitol. The United States is ranked third on a list of countries afflicted by terrorism. The terrorist threat to the country is growing. The United States exercises relatively little control over its population. Identification is easy to obtain. The ethnic mixture of the population make the United States an easy country in which to be anonymous. The current deterrents to terrorism serve to discourage Americans rather than foreign perpetrators. Indigenous terrorist groups are not likely to develop in the United States. Reasons for suspecting increased terrorist activity from foreign sources include American rearmament, the upcoming political conventions, and the 1984 Olympic games.

Molybdenum cofactor biosynthesis and molybdenum enzymes

Article Abstract:

The molybdenum cofactor (Moco) forms the active site of all eukaryotic molybdenum (Mo) enzymes, where Moco consists of molybdenum covalently bound to two sulfur atoms of a unique tricyclic pterin moiety referred to as molybdopterin. Moco is synthesized from GTP by an ancient and conserved biosynthetic pathway that can be divided into four steps involving the biosynthetic intermediates cyclic pyranoprotein monophosphate, molybdopterin, and adenylated molybdopterin.

Holmquistite in quartz

Article Abstract:

Quartz specimens with blue or violet inclusions are rare. The first specimens to exhibit a cat's-eye effect were found in Precambrian lithium pegmatites near Sao Joao del Rei, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Modern techniques identified the inclusions as holmquistite, a rare lithium amphibole.
