Acting on one's beliefs; clash between gay rights and religious freedom spills over into workplace

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the growing number of lawsuits challenging rules to prevent discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation are discussed. Altman v. Minnesota Department of Corrections may be one of the few cases that move the issue from cases pitting religious freedom against gay rights and into the employment arena.

Bid for fair practice' online auctioneer gains business from link site but doesn't want e-shoppers using the back door

Article Abstract:

Suits by companies such as eBay charging smaller Web companies with unfair business practices for bypassing the host's home site and generating business for themselves are discussed. Some critics maintain the large companies could deal with the situation by developing technology to limit access to their sites.

The fight ain't over; the Equal Rights Amendment died in 1982, but supporters are trying to breathe new life into the cause in Congress and state legislatures

Article Abstract:

Supporters of the federal Equal Rights Amendment are hoping renewed interest can help them revive this amendment, and backers of state initiatives and the federal ERA say that despite the social and economic gains of the past two decades, women will never truly be treated as equals under the law without an ERA. Favorable court rulings, women's political action committees such as Emily List, and some legislative gains have marked the last two decades.
