The glass ceiling keeping women from becoming law school deans or law firm partners is discussed, That sexism continues to be a problem in the legal profession was a further consensus in the discussion. Pessimism regarding the ability of women to balance child-rearing duties with work as a lawyer was also shared.

The Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions has the backing of 29 industrialized nations comprising the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and attempts to deal with a problem affecting more than $30 bil annually in international contracts. The taint on sports competition and the crisis with the 1999 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games might raise awareness even more.

The latest discovery mission; judges set to debate changes that would make new federal rules mandatory

Article Abstract:

Proposed mandatory disclosure in discovery will be a topic of discussion of the Sep 1999 meeting of the Judicial Conference of the U.S. Courts. The mandate that evem the least favorable information be disclosed at the outset of litigation was the most controversial when the current rules became law in 1993, and the revised proposal downgrades this to only favorable information.
