The lease option

Article Abstract:

Law offices may avoid some of the risks of computer systems upgrades by leasing computer hardware, rather than buying it outright. A 'layered' lease, or some combination of lease and purchase according to product life cycles, is a good lease arrangement. Layered leases have three-year terms for products with three-year life cycles, such as PCs, so that the lessor is never paying past the useful life of the product. In contrast, software should likely be bought outright rather than leased, because it lasts more or less forever due to upgrades. Users should lease from companies that specialize in leasing computer equipment. Such companies often have connections to international brokers who resell the used systems to third-world countries, thus reducing lessors' costs.
