The US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, in A & M Records, Inc. v. Napster, ruled that the online music service violated fair use copyright with its system which permits the uploading and downloading of digital audio files and facilitates transmission and retention of the files by users.

E-litigation; a new legal domain

Article Abstract:

Domain names are becoming a frequent object of litigation, and a 1999 World Intellectual Property Organization would make illegal the practice of registering others trademarks just to hold the names for ransom. Domain name registrars would follow "best practice" procedures governing the handling of domain names containing false or incomplete information. The proposals are posted on the World Wide Web at www.wipo.org and are available for public comment until May 25, 1999.
