A description of the Bronx Defenders, which tries as part of their criminal defense to rehabilitate their clients and save them from recidivism. This rehabilitation can include treatment for drug addiction, job hunting and housing assistance, and counseling for clients and their family members.

The growing support of their cause reported by capital punishment opponents is discussed. Polls report the support for the death penalty has decreased from the 80% recorded in 1994, and the use of DNA testing to prove innocence is the subject of congressional bills.

'Virtual kid' porn ban reaches high court; 1st Amendment lawyers fret over '96 law

Article Abstract:

The controversy among First Amendment lawyers regarding the Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996 and a pending ruling on this issue by the US Supreme Court are discussed. The 9th Circuit found the law too vague although several circuits have held it was constitutional.
