Remember savings bonds? Despite some drawbacks, they can equal or exceed the returns of other assets

Article Abstract:

Reasons are discussed why the conservative investment of savings bonds might, at times. be the best option available. The rate of return of savings bonds may well exceed other conservative investments, and federal income tax on the compounded interest can be deferred almost indefinitely. Illiquidity are the bonds' biggest drawback.

Out of control and out of cash; those with the most to spend can be the most undisciplined budgeters

Article Abstract:

A planned budget tying together projected income, expenditures, and financial goals is a must for undisciplined spenders too easily led astray by inducements to spend. People are often shocked when they find out where their money has been going, and those with much spendable money, especially when income is variable, are the worst offenders. Undisciplined spenders tend to accumulate much credit card debt or unwise home equity loans, which can be helpful warning signs.

The paradox of market bubbles; stocks that are overvalued bring profit but inevitably reach the breaking point

Article Abstract:

The article recommends prudent asset allocation for investors who have made substantial gains in the last few years and gives practical investment suggestions. Prudent diversificaiton should be the rule, with some stock gains cashed in and reallocated to other classes to reduce exposure to a stock market downturn. A weighted buying strategy and the purchase of options are other possibilities.
