Article Abstract:

Use of life insurance proceeds to fund estate tax liabilities is a useful planning method particularly for married individuals. Third party policy ownership is necessary to avoid insureds' retention of incidents of policy ownership for 3 years prior to death in accordance with the contemplation of death rules in IRC section 2035.
