Tracing a rumor's spread; report offers clues but no conclusions as to source of Hill leak

Article Abstract:

Peter Fleming Jr, independent counsel investigating the source for the leak of Anita Hill's sexual harassment charges against then-Supreme-Court nominee Clarence Thomas, failed to identify a source for any leaks, but his report confirms that most Washington leaks are partisan and strategic. Hill's charges were first made public by the Alliance for Justice, a public-interest group, which gave the information to staff members for Senator Howard Metzenbaum of Ohio. James Brudney, chief counsel for Metzenbaum's labor subcommittee, is a suspect, but denies complicity.

How the military investigates itself; study: patchwork of policies hinders redress for sexually harassed soldiers

Article Abstract:

The National Women's Law Center has released a study which finds that military investigation of claims of sexual harassment of soldiers is inadequate. The study finds that soldiers fear reprisals or being labeled troublemakers. Also, there are no independent investigations and remedies are limited. In fact, there are no statistics on redress or punishment for such crimes. Updates of the Uniform Code of Military Justice have been inadequate for such crimes.
