Halftime score; key ABA-supported measures pass in first session of 105th Congress

Article Abstract:

ABA-supported measures passed during the first session of the 105th Congress were on judicial salaries, legal services, children's issues, and immigration benefits. Congress continued funding the Legal Services Corp., (LSC) a major victory for the ABA, even though a group of leaders in the House of Representatives targeted the program for elimination. The LSC survived with $283 mil in funding for the current federal budget year, the same amount it had received in FY 1997.
