Women's imprisonment

Article Abstract:

A study explores women's experiences in prison, their responses to treatment, their lives after prison, and how changing prison regimes affect these issues. New theoretical frameworks provide important insights into the processes of gender identity construction, and of gendered social controls, but more research is needed with regard to imprisonment as a site of state punishment.

The purposes, practices, and problems of supermax prisons

Article Abstract:

The proliferation of supermaximum security prisons in the US appears premised on the belief that prison disorder is the product primarily of disruptive inmates rather than the characteristics of prison regimes. However, evidence from a study that examines a variety of policy and research questions about supermax prisons seems to suggest otherwise.
