DOE, U.S. firms to report more nuclear activities to IAEA

Article Abstract:

The Bush administration is preparing to propose that nuclear-weapon sites of the Department of Energy and commercial nuclear-power operations must report research, fuel-production, equipment-manufacturing and waste-processing activities to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for review and possible inspection. The support for this protocol has developed due to uncovering of Iraq's secret nuclear weapons program during the wake of the Gulf War and recent revelations about Iran and Libya's clandestine efforts to develop nuclear weapons through uranium enrichment and other nuclear activities.
