Discounted victims: Underreporting of city's sex crimes leads to investigation of police 'crime memos'

Article Abstract:

The FBI's uniform-crime report indicated that St. Louis had suffered more than one-quarter of Missouri's violent crimes in 2003, but only six percent of the state's rapes. This was highly unlikely since St. Louis is a very violent city and this resulted in an investigation of the victims' complaints in informal, usually hand-written 'crime memos', in which no reports were written and no crime was counted.

Under the sea

Article Abstract:

The dumping of chemical weapons in the ocean by the US army is an old and extensive practice. These chemical dumps were not only damaging for the sea life but also to the fishermen and people living by the coast, however, now the Department of Defense has promised to search the information on dumping and stop the practice altogether.
