Preying on therory

Article Abstract:

Predatory pricing was once seen as irrational and so unlikely, but this view has changed. The practice involves making a loss through setting prices low in order to attack the competition. University of Chicago's John Lott argues that entrants to markets can affect the stock prices of dominat companies simply by announcing that they plan to compete. He sees government enterprises as more likely to use predatory pricing. He does not give a full analysis of the position of high-tech companies such as Microsoft, and this omission leaves a gap in his theories.
