Hidden treasures: The Manuscripts of 'Twenty Thousand Leagues'

Article Abstract:

The real intentions behind Jules Verne's masterpieces could be understood only by garnering detailed textual knowledge of the extent to which his publisher's censorship altered the writer's original texts. A study of the manuscripts of 'Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Seas' reveals how drastically the ideological tenor of the novel was changed by the censorship imposed on it by Verne's publisher.

Why they kill Jules Verne: SF and Cartesian culture

Article Abstract:

The cultural implications of the paternity of Jules Verne and the subsequent attempt to culturally assassinate him are explored in the light of the book, 'Why I Killed Jules Verne' by Bernard Blanc. Results reveal that the killing of Verne represents a defining act both in terms of French sf and of president French attitudes toward science itself.
