'Killer king'

Article Abstract:

Los Angeles County's public hospital system is assessed with the help of health inspector's report, malpractice suits, findings of the accreditors and Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center is rated the worst among all medical centers in the county. King/Drew gained a bad reputation as a hospital where bad things happed and it was known as 'Killer King' for many years following the uncovering of a series of dangerous lapses in patient care.

Blackout: power shortages, interruptions could become more common story

Article Abstract:

The outage on Aug 14, 2003 in the Midwest and Northeast, as well as Ontario, Canada affected an estimated 50 million Americans, thus experiencing worst blackout in its history. The step to investigate the cause of the blackout was to find whether the companies involved hold federal contracts, and also to find top-notch resources beyond contracts.

New service makes data available more quickly

Article Abstract:

A user-friendly online subscription service that provides cleaned and updated databases for instant use developed by IRE and NICAR is described. This service allows journalists to obtain data as fast as government agency updates it and also provides them with a shortcut to deal with lack of time in processing raw data.
