Navy needs multi-mission ships, association leader says

Article Abstract:

Cynthia Brown, President of the American Shipbuilding Association stated in an interview that the Navy needs to focus on vessels capable of performing many missions at once rather than ships that can perform a limited number of missions, indirectly criticizing the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). Expressing her dissatisfaction with President George Bush's five-year budget that emphasizes investment in least capable vessels for single missions she also assailed the number of ships and amount of funding for them provided in the spending plan.
