The Driver's Privacy Protection Act: a federal collision with states' rights

Article Abstract:

A state-by-state legislative update concerning the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act, juvenile records, public access to electronic meetings and documents, journalists' newsgathering rights, political advertising regulations and sex offender tracking is provided for 1997. Some states are allowing drivers to restrict access to their personal information in Dept of Motor Vehicles' records. Several states are increasing access to juvenile records, with Iowa releasing records on ten years olds or older. State access laws in many states are expanding to include electronic media.
