Congregate Living Arrangements: The Financing Option

Article Abstract:

Ward describes congregate living facilities as small, separate living units massed together with adjoining community services such as a dining room, housekeeping staff, organized social activites and personnel to assist with specific personal routines. The federal government has encouraged congregate housing with legislation and funding. Ward discusses several options of financing, rent assistance and mortgage insurance. Ward sees the need for congregate housing growing with our increasingly elderly population. Ward foresees new avenues for financing congregate housing develop as this type housing becomes more popular. Tables on federal financing and other financing options are included.

M Street Southeast, a devastated neighborhood rife with crime, poverty and drug-trafficking located a few blocks from the Capitol Building is poised to become an area of upscale office buildings. Lockheed Martin Corp., Northrop Grumann Corp. and General Dynamics Corp. have already set up office structures while the Department of Transportation's new headquarters building will be coming up soon.
