Release of psychiatrists' names would invade privacy

Article Abstract:

Two federal courts have rejected the Freedom of Information Act request by Jonathan Wichlacz to release the list of psychiatrists found in Vincent Foster's wallet after his apparent suicide. The government denied the request because of the ongoing Independent Counsel investigation into the circumstances of the death and because it could subject the psychiatrists to unwelcome notoriety, making them less willing to cooperate with the investigation. This exemption is allowed under the Act for both privacy and law-enforcement issues.

Court denies release of course materials

Article Abstract:

A New York appellate court has ruled that teaching materials are not public records under the state's Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). In Russo v. Nassau County Community College, a man had sued to view a film the college used in a sex education class, stating that, as a public agency, the college was obligated under the FOIL. The court, however, disagreed, stating that the teaching materials were available through commercial means or by taking the course, and therefore not subject to the FOIL.
