Suspicious deaths exposed by database reporting

Article Abstract:

Database providing information on unexpected death of patients in North Carolina's mental and health facilities. Around 34 unexpected or violent deaths were found in mental health facilities where patients had suffocated, starved, choked and drowned and in most cases these deaths were never investigated because state regulations were unaware about them.

Pollution: measure agency enforcement to see if fouling air, water pays

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on North Carolina's laxity in enforcing environmental laws governing air and water pollution, particularly regarding long-term and repeat offenders. The negative media coverage has resulted in a governor-directed revamp of the state's punitive fines system, including harsher penalties and closer monitoring of polluters.

Under-ground existence for immigrants working in U.S

Article Abstract:

The reasons associated with place like North Carolina, which was for generations dominated by Americans and Afro-Americans, but suddenly attracting many Hispanic immigrants is analyzed with 'Underground in Carolina'. A new immigrant pipeline that links Latin America and Northern Carolina is reported.
