The making of an investigative think tank

Article Abstract:

The Center for Public Integrity, established in Washington in 1989, supports political nonalignment and substantive journalism. The Center has worked on 19 investigative projects and published 'The Buying of the President,' a book that contain investigative information about the 1996 presidential candidates. It has a World Wide Web page offering information on the financial ties of the candidates. Another project details the campaign finances of Indiana legislators.

Toxic Deception

Article Abstract:

The Center for Public Integrity has published the results of a three-year investigation of federal toxic chemical regulations. 'Toxic Deception: How the Chemical Industry Manipulates Science, Bends the Law, and Endangers Your Health' focuses on common chemicals alachlor, atrazine, formaldehyde and perchloroehtylene. The investigative report, which was authored by Marianne Lavelle and Dan Fagin, includes interviews with toxicity and cancer research experts.
