Incentive-based formularies

Article Abstract:

More and more US health care plans are using a three-level drug list that passes more of the costs of drugs on to consumers. The lowest and cheapest level is the generic drugs, followed by preferred brand-name drugs and non-preferred brand-name drugs. Consumers would pay a greater co-payment for non-preferred brand name drugs. However, a 2003 study showed that some patients would just stop taking the drug.
