Animated magic: even the most die-hard animation companies have fallen under the spell of the latest computer wizadry. Loath as they are to see traditional skills disapper, they have been bewitched by the software's speed and quality

Users of Cambridge Animation Systems Animo software packages include Ealing Animation, Teleimagination and Honeycomb Animation. Software developers and markets are benefiting from the enthusiasm for computer animation systems amongst animators and are launching new packages. Softimage has recently relaunched its Toonz software which is said to be faster than Animo, although more expensive.

Stephen Claypole, chief executive and managing director of Associated Press Television (APTV), started his career as a print journalist and joined the BBC in 1975. His posts with the BBC included news editor and editor news and current affairs, Northern Ireland. He joined APTV, which focuses on producing news packages that broadcasters can use whole, in 1994.

A mart for all seasons: faced with spiralling exhibition and travel costs, distributors are having to look hard at the benefits of the major markets

Article Abstract:

There are many new television markets and events throughout the year, including discount/mini markets such as Discop and Mid-TV as well as Cartoon and Sportel. Distributors will have to consider the rising costs of exhibitions and travel, although in most cases they cannot afford not to attend such exhibitions.
