Arbitron

Article Abstract:

Arbitron can resort to flagging or deletion of a radio station if it is found guilty of engaging in ratings distortion activity. Arbitron tries to ensure that listeners give objective ratings to stations. The surveys conducted by Arbitron must be free of any bias. If a station tries to make a survey participant record incorrect information or use the survey for a promotion by the station, Arbitron can penalise the station. Deletion of all estimates of listening to the station affects its ability to woo investors who are guided by its ratings.

A new business, income tax and the opening years

Article Abstract:

Two hypothetical examples of the assessment to income tax of sole traders in the initial years of new businesses are presented. Sole traders are assessed to income tax on profits from their businesses for the fiscal years they are trading. The basis for assessing income tax of existing businesses using profits from accounting periods ending in the preceding fiscal years during which trading occurs cannot be used. For the first years of new businesses, special opening year rules must be used.
