Arts and graft

Article Abstract:

Specialist cable and satellite television stations may bring about dramatic changes in arts programming in the United Kingdom, experts say. The cable arts channel Performance is extending its airtime to 12 hours daily, up from 6, while more esablished TV stations like BBC or Channel 4 are having their arts budgets reduced. TV producer NVC Arts is adapting by targeting smaller channels such as Performance in the UK, Ovation in the US and Australia, and Muzzik in France. Reiner Moritz of arts programming producer RM Associates says the arts genre is a buyer's market and that huge profits cannot be the primary motivating factor.
