Birt disciples move to senior BBC posts

Article Abstract:

BBC Broadcast director of radio Matthew Bannister, who is regarded as a disciple of outgoing BBC director general Sir John Birt, is poised to succeed retiring BBC Production CEO Ron Neil by the end of 1998. Likewise, BBC World Service managing director Sam Younger will be replaced by BBC Broadcast director of regional broadcasting Mark Byford, who is also said to be a Birt disciple, by the end of 1998. Bannister and Byford will join the executive committee, which is the most senior management forum at BBC.

Is that really it?

Article Abstract:

BBC News' new program strategy review had viewers wondering about improvements in the programming after 18 months and 200,000 pounds sterling spent for the review. The review, for instance, did not provide details on the relaunch of The Six O'Clock News as well as the replacement for BBC 1's Here and Now. Details are also lacking as to the three new current affairs shows on BBC 2 and there are criticisms over the separation of domestic and foreign news between The Nine O'Clock New and The Six O'Clock News.
