Book publishing and freedom: an essay

Article Abstract:

Book publishing remains an indicator of any society's freedom, although complications can arise with responsibility in free countries. For example, the underground minority publishers of Eastern Europe held to idealism, but irresponsible indulgence was catered to by western publishers once liberation from communism occurred. Other problems include issues of copyright and economic censorship by default in poorer countries.

Distance makes the market fonder: the development of book publishing in Australia

Article Abstract:

Book publishing in Australia remains as an expression of cultural domination by Britain. The Australian government has taken some interest in preventing cultural imperialism in the book trade. However, Australians are supportive of contact with Britain due to the large distance separating the countries. Fears of cultural imperialism are overshadowed by an attitude of need.
