Bringing the past to life

Article Abstract:

BBC's drama The Cazalets required costume designer Frances Tempest to design costumes for over 50 characters in a short ten weeks . The drama, which is based on Elizabeth Jane Howard's novels Marking Time and The Light Years, depicts an upper-class family and their everyday life during World War II, requiring an abundance of apparell from outer wear to under wear. Though the costumes were very particular, Tempest also focused much of her time on color contrasts and important scenes within the movie.
