Cascade plans 10m GBP spree

Article Abstract:

Cascade, the new distribution unit of Scottish Television Enterprise, has allocated 10 million pound sterling for rights acquisition and co-production with international partners. Darryl James, general manager of Cascade, said the distributor will focus on the acquisition of drama, children's programming and animation for the peaktime. Cascade's initial co-production venture is likely to be "Upstairs Downstairs Bears," a 26 x 10-minute animation with Egmont, a Danish media group. Other Cascade projects include a co-production with Siriol in Cardiff for a 26 x 10-minute animation series, "Maisie MacKenzie."

TV Oklahoma rides in

Article Abstract:

Primetime, a television producer distributor based in the UK, has partnered with Trevor Nunn, director of the famous theatre-musical Oklahoma, to produce a television version of Oklahoma. Nunn is currently negotiating with the two UK-based broadcasters, BBC and ITV, and three US-based partners for the proposed project. The television production of Oklahoma, valued at 3 million pounds sterling, will use the same cast playing in the theatrical version including Maureen Lipman. The TV version will be directed by Nunn and produced by Richard Price as producer.

He's the Itel man

Article Abstract:

UK television program distributor Itel is expected to report a turnover of around 40 million pounds sterling for 1998. The company's chief executive is Andrew Macbean and its customer portfolio includes the BBC, Wall to Wall, and Turner Original Productions. Macbean is also acting chief executive of Cosgrove Hall Films, which has recently sold 'Stressed Eric' adult cartoon show to NBC in the US.
